Is it true that apps ask you for year to year salaries?

I'm at a bschool feeder so I'm sure they know what the raises are like for top performers, middle of the line performers and laggards. How much does this play into their decision?

I'm applying to two schools. One asked for salaries and one didn't. I don't think it plays a big role.

It's more like starting salary and current salary (two data points). Some schools ask for most recent bonus.
