I think C is correct.

A and D liken authors to Rushdie's book.
B and E just sound wrong.

I dont see a good choice at all.

A & D compare authors to books.

C has idiom issue. Just as x So y is the correct idiom

B & E remain. I would choose E over B for two reasons

(1) as did is past tense

(2) SR's first novel is better than first of SR's novels.

Novel about is better than Novel on.

What is the source of this Q?
