Why A is correct answer? Why not B?
"The patten of whisker spots" is singular hence singular subject is should be used. Is this correct?

What is the source?
According to the OG, "since" is wrong if you want to indicate "causality".

This question looks very odd to me. Firs t of all a pattern is compared with fingerprints. This is not strictly grammatical. The whisker spots should have been directly compared with fingerprints. Alternately the pattern could have been compared with the design or lines of the fingerprints.
Secondly, the supposedly correct answer seems to use ‘since’ in the sense of ‘because’ as a conjunction, a thing not permitted by GMAT, as others have pointed out.
The intent of the topic is to compare and confirm two things that both are unique and similar in nature. Putting one arm of the comparisons in parenthesis and making it inessential is antithetical.
The final straw on the camel’s back is that the official answer is an unacceptable A
