E is my answer too.

Reason : I cornered down to C and E. rather the choices of did/would. Since the question is set in the past context, a century would be a future so, 'would' is prefered over 'did' .

Context determines the usage...

Idiom as… as is required here.
Both (C) and (E) provide the idiom. However, C uses ‘did offer’ which is past tense. Edward Albee would offer is required as we want to use a future tense to say what Edward had to offer a century after Henrik Ibsen’s plays.

IMHO - "Would" is not proper usage here. Would is properly used when one talks about future in PAST.
e.g. He said he would carry my books.

"almost a century later" is appropriately maintaining time frame and IMHO there is no need to change the tense sequence.
"did" in choice C is used there to emphesize the affirmativity of the sentence.
Correct answer should be "C", which maintains correct usage as...as too.

:btw whats the OA ?

I selected E, but wouldn't bet on that choice.

I would go with E because of futurity in the past. "almost a century later" conveys that idea of futurity in the past.

Yes, the answer should be E. Your "present" in the sentence is in the past, which should affect your "future" in the past.
