My choice is C

Reason :
1. 'affect' and 'influence' parallel
2. 'Changes' takes the relative/non-restrictive clause no the word 'economy'

Well.. this thread would be boring without some contention, so for the sake of argument i'll pick B. I don't see why there is a need to split into two sentances. Is the phrase "as well as" considered taboo on the GMAT?

The problem is not with "as well as". As you can see, relative pronoun "that" introduces a restrictive clause refering to "economy". Is it the "economy" which will affect the character of labor unions and influence consumer life? Answer is no. The economy cannot do such things. C, by introducing a distinct independent clause with a clear subject "changes" makes it clear that it is the changes which will perform those afore mentioned actions.

Ah... thanks! I should have paid more attention in middle school grammar. These sentance corrects are going to be the death of me :-D
