The food industry claims that..... and that.....
So, we can eliminate D and E.

In A, it should be ...... makes it less likely that individual consumer will....
So, A can be eliminated.

C corrects the error made by choice A.

So its a toss up between B and C. Although C is wordy, I feel C is the right choice.

Went for B and got it wrong. Did not note 'that.. and that' is a parallel.

The OA is C. I marked B and here is my doubt.
In the third choice in the ' that the availability of a variety of sweeteners makes it less likely that individual customers wll exceed' - what does 'it' refer to. I wasn't sure of this 'it' and so i felt that B was clear.
Can anyone explain what the 'it' refers to.

Hi anuramm, this is a classical case like "It is raining outside" where it refers to nothing.
Standard English allow "it" and "there" without referrent. however, can someone ratify, please ?

Hey Bhai,
Clarification:
for eg.:
(1) he claimed that he was a genius and that he was nominated for the nobel prize,

you could also say:

(2) he claimed that he was a genius and was nominated for the nobel prize

In (1) the underlined part is a result of the italicized part.. This does not hold true for (2) though.

I got C.
