Hi Thank you so much for your answers!

I have taken 2 full Manhattan CATs so far, (1 was about a month ago and one 2 months ago)
590 (Q44, V29)
540 (Q37, V28)
Recently i have given about 15 gmatclub quant CATs and the scores have been in the range of 45-50 (Last 2 being 48 and 50). At this moment i feel good with Quants and have been focusing on SC basics lately. I have gone through all Egmat SC files again and made notes. And now my focus is on practising as many questions as i can to implement the concepts.

I know giving full CATs is important, I plan to start giving them regularly now starting this weekend.

My target score is atleast 700, My target schools are NUS, ISB, IIMs, INSEAD

Thanks you for your guidance!

Regards,
Raunak

Hi Raunak,

Since your GMAT is coming up in about 3 weeks, we really need a fresh, realistic CAT score to assess your current skills. As such, when you take your next CAT, you should do everything that you can to make sure it's a realistic and test-like experience (so take the FULL CAT - with the Essay and IR sections, take it away from your home, at the same time of day as when you're taking the Official GMAT, etc.). Once you have that score, you should report back here and we can discuss how best to proceed.

At face value, raising a 590 to a 700+ in 3 week is not a realistic goal. This is meant to say that you might want to consider pushing back your Test Date.

Hi,

I just finished the gmatprep Mock. It was a full mock and i went to the library to attempt this one.

I scored 630 Q46/V31. Not very happy with this score. I was definitely expecting around Q48-49 but yes even if i scored that, it would have not been close to the 700 i am looking at.

Given this score, i have decided to push my test date by a couple of weeks. Can you guide me on what should be my study plan for the coming days? I have take a 10 day break from work, so i plan to put in at-least 10-12 hours/ day in the next 2 weeks.

I definitely felt tired during the verbal section, so definitely i need to take more mocks.

Looking forward to your guidance.

Thanks,
Raunak

Hi Raunak,

Using this recent CAT score as a gauge, you're going to have to make some significant improvements to how you handle BOTH the Quant and Verbal sections. Pushing back your Test Date was a smart choice, but you still need to be a bit more specific about your timeline:

1) What is your exact Test Date?
2) When are you planning to apply to Business School?

I'm concerned about your plan to study 10-12 hours a day for 2 weeks; that type of plan often leads to 'burn out' - and we don't want that to happen so close to Test Day.

Hi Rich,

In the last 10 days I have worked really hard on the Verbal section and also took a few mocks (both Gmatprep and MGMAT) and I am consistently hitting the 620-640 score. I have analysed my mocks thoroughly and I feel I have hit a plateau mainly because of my performance on the RCs. My average scores in the Verbal section are as follows:
SC - 35-39
CR - 31-35
RC - 18-24

Clearly if I can improve my RC score to 28-30, i will be able to increase my verbal by ~3-4 points (and that's exactly where I want to end up).

I have still not taken a date for the actual test as I am not hitting my target score in the mocks. Can you please guide me, how I can improve on the RC section? I have tried the taking notes approach but this is not working for me (In-fact it screws up my entire Verbal because of the time issue)

Thanks you so much for your suggestions and guidance so fa. Really appreciate!

Regards,
Raunak

Hi Raunak,

I have a few questions about how you took these recent CATs:

1) What were the exact scores for each CAT (including the Quant and Verbal Scaled Scores)?
2) Did you take the ENTIRE CAT each time (including the Essay and IR sections)?
3) Did you take them at home?
4) What time of day did you take these CATs?
5) Did you ever do ANYTHING during your CATs that you couldn't do on Test Day (pause the CAT, skip sections, take longer breaks, etc.)?
6) Did you ever take a CAT more than once? Had you seen any of the questions BEFORE?

As an aside, you clearly want to score better (but you're 'stuck' at this score level) - however, you don't want to train to hone the essential skill (note-taking) that will lead to a higher score. You have to decide what's more important - scoring 700+ or not taking notes - because you don't get to do both.
