SC Question - Ms. Landowska is among the forecasters who predict that the rate of addition to tillable lands will drop while those of barren rise.
(A) those of barren rise (B) it rises for barren (C) those of barren will rise (D) the rate of barren rises (E) there are rises for the rate of barren
Answer given is (D).
However, I marked (B) as the answer because - A and C refer to 'those' - which is plural. D and E refer to 'rate of barren' - which doesn't make sense.
Can anyone help here? I want to understand why is D the answer.
