Hello Hjort and All,
I am applying to business school this fall for Fall 2007. I'm narrowing my list and would appreciate advice and assessment of my profile.
Caucasian female
Age: 27
Work Experience: Consulting at top tier firms and a year on my own (successfully), 5 years now, 6 years upon program start.
Undergrad: 3.2 at Yale in History
GMAT: 680, but I've been testing on GMATprep and others between 730 and 760. I expect to get 700 at the very least and have typically tested much better than 680.
Volunteer: organize, lead and manage a volunteer event 1-2 times/month within my firm, appointed as a member a council within my firm to liaise with non-profits to place board members, allocate funds, and organize grass roots, initiated other volunteer events within my firm. Regular volunteer for animal rights (outside of work).
Leadership: Co-founder/officer of a diversity group wtihin company.
Other: Political experience on campaigns, run marathons
Honestly, I was only going to apply to 5 and my list doesn't really have a backup. In my career, an MBA won't improve my salary nor will it improve my level (within my current firm). I've progressed quickly and am the youngest or one of the youngest at my level. For me, the MBA would be used as a catalyst for my career in a slightly different direction. And, obviously, I think it will help down the line - this isn't a short term benefit for me, it's to improve my chances at my long term goals. If I dont' get in this year, my 'Plan B' is probably to go the Executive route, which I would be eligible for in about 3 years.
Any and all comments are appreciated.
Thanks so much.
