I am sure many of us have all heard that we should try and direct our recs to try to make some of their letters school specific...more than just getting the name right. I am having a hard time what the schools I am applying to (GSB, Kellogg, MIT, and Tuck for R1) care about in students beyond what all schools do.
I mean I can tell them how Tuck values their small tight knit community but the others I am at a loss for how to ask my recommenders to position me to specific schools.
Any advice on where to find useful info beyond the generic we like leaders and team players. If any current students or applicants to any school want to offer tips for a school as to the specific points of emphasis at indivudual schools please post them. Anything you think of that makes a school different that can help, ie Harvard and Darden's use of the case study method.

I think the key is to talk to students and alums to get the "hidden" culture of those schools. For example, I bet you rhyme can tell you a lot about GSB and Kellogg that's very different from other schools, and what they look for in a student. Actually, if rhyme does answer this thread or PM you, could you share what he says? I'm still trying to learn more about Chicago and Kellogg myself 
But I've found by talking to Stanford and Haas students and alums, just a few 30-60 minute conversations have given me MORE than I can fit into my essays on why I want to go there. I believe I can easily ask the recommenders to focus on things that they care about now. UCLA I'm still working on, but I think that's the way to go. The people who are at the school will know the best!
Just taking a shot, but MIT will probably focus more on the intensive quant abilities and see how hard working you are. If you can have your recs focus on that, it should fit MIT well.

I actually contacted a member of the Anderson panel from their open house that I met and spoke wit. We had coffee and chatted about the program for about an hour yesterday. It was a great expereince and I feel 100% more confident about my decision to make Andersion my #1 choice. Great to hear both the pros and cons from someone that has been through it all!
