Hi everyone,
I currently have admits from Schulich and McGill and would like inputs from the forum to see what people think! Here is my list of pros and cons so far, but happy to share more information if needed. -
Background –
1. Indian, Male, Mid 20s
2. WE – 4 years at a big 4 (not consulting)
3. GMAT – 720
4. Post MBA goal – Consulting. I Understand that MBB will not be possible, but very much open to Big 4 and boutiques.
SchulichPros –
1. Location – Based in Toronto – where most of the consulting firms are
2. Consulting jobs – Decent – a lot of graduates find jobs in consulting (No MBB of course)
Cons –
1. Class profile – Very Indian/less diversity - a lot of people tell me that it’s almost like studying in an Indian class room.
2. Brand name – I feel McGill wins here
3. Fee – no scholarships so a difference of approximately CAD 45,000
McGillPros –
1. Scholarships – Difference of approximately CAD 45,000 in tuition
2. Class profile – Class is much more diverse compared to Schulich. The McGill community is what I’d like to be a part of since they are more diverse. Not sure how big of a factor that is compared to employment outcomes, but it’s a factor for sure.
3. Alums – I see more McGill MBAs in consulting compared to Schulich MBA. Even the undergraduate network is much larger in consulting.
4. Hypothetically speaking, if McGill was based in Toronto I’d pick McGill without a second thought.
Cons –
1. Location – Montreal is a very French Speaking place and I do not speak French. As such most of my job prospects would be based in Toronto (the language barrier, but also because Toronto is where most of the consulting firms are).
Timeline –
I have around a week or two to pay down the deposits at both schools, but the amount is not much in the grand scheme of things so I’m open to putting down the deposits.
