A, B and C have ambiguous pronoun references 'that they'le
D. 'believe as' is unidiomatic
'believe to be' is the correct idiom

A. i think we need present tense to keep the sprit of the sentense. also we need "that" to express restrictive clause.

one more vote for E. Should be A if the underlined part starts from " that they..."

I think that Is required for the restrictive clause. I would choose B. It also maintains the sentence in the present tense.

The restictiveclause "that" is needed here, otherwise it becomes an awkward sentence. I`ll take B over A because the subjunctive is not being tested.
