I think we all know by now that your GMAT score is attributed to skill and a little bit to luck. I recently came across someone scoring a 675 with a V83 as their first section. This seems like a normal score, but what made no sense to me was that they got 9 questions wrong. I understand how scoring works in relation to question difficulty and when you get questions wrong, but this score just makes no sense. Questions 6, 8-11, 13, 17, 20, 22/23 were all incorrect. I wouldn't say that getting the 6th question wrong is far enough in the exam to where the difficulty is ramped up a ton, and I also wouldn't say that this pattern describes them clearly doing well to the point where the difficulty is remaining high. I have never once seen a score where there are more questions wrong than points deducted, so 9 questions wrong would be at most V80. I've seen a lot of people complain about their scores or ask why it appears they scored low/high and in all cases it can be related to them getting questions at the beginning wrong (low score) or just questions near the end (higher score). This case is neither and indicates they got questions wrong near the beginning, middle, and end, yet ended up with a score relatively well. In comparison, I also scored a V83 on my most recent exam and got 6 questions wrong. I will admit this comes from some being easier most likely as they were questions 4, 6, 13/14, 20, 23 to me this showcases a lot better understanding. To me, there doesn't appear to be an explanation for a score of V83 with 9 questions wrong.
