Scored 580.Need advise..

Question

Hi..I score 580(Quants:44 Verbal:25). Verbal i took egmat course. I had last 8,mins with 8 questions in verbal, that is one of the reasons why my score is low.. ..Feeling pahtetic after that :cry:

...I am planning to give exams again by July end. I am taking lot of time to solve each verbal question. Need advise as how do i proceed . Pls help. Thanks in advance

Hi bhavanabaheti,

With a V25, you were already 'in trouble' before you hit the final 8 Verbal questions (although having to rush through that many questions would have hurt your score too). Before I can offer you the specific advice that you're looking for, it would help if you could provide a bit more information on how you've been studying and your goals:

1) How long have you studied?
2) What materials have you used?
3) Is that 580 from the Official GMAT or a practice CAT?

4) What is your goal score?
5) When are you planning to apply to Business School?

I studied for 2 months..for the 1st month i studied like 2 hours daily and second month around 4-5 hours/ day. I used egmat CR, RC and SC course and solved OG 2015 . Target score is around 680-700. I am planning to apply for Jan 2017.

Hi bhavanabaheti,

Many Test Takers spend 3 months (or more) of consistent study time before they hit their 'peak' scores, so it's likely that you just have not put in enough time and effort yet. Considering your Official Score and your goal score, you will likely need another 2 months of consistent study time to get to your goal score. You'll also have to make some significant improvements to how you handle BOTH the Quant and Verbal sections, so you would likely benefit a great deal by investing in some new practice materials and learning/practicing some new Tactics.

When i am practicing questions in Verbal my accuracy in CR and SC is 80-90%. But the major problem i am facing is i am taking lot of time for every question. Also, I need help in Rc. How to improve speed and accuracy. Pls help

Hi bhavanabaheti,

Most Verbal questions can be solved with some basic note-taking and a consistent set of 'steps.' If you're taking too long to answer a typical Verbal question, then something about 'your way' of doing things is not efficient. With the proper Tactics and the proper repetitions, you should be able to score at a high level and do so while spending less time (on average) per question.

1) What 'steps' do you go through when dealing with a typical SC, RC and CR? (describe how you work through the question).
