Hi all,
I'm aware that we get a scratch pad on test day, which is 5 two-sided pages, so actually about 10 pages (can someone confirm)?
The issue is that as most of you can probably relate, you may need more than that for the quant portion. While I can technically fit everything into the 9-10 pages if I really tried, I think I would really benefit from using up more space in terms of organization.. and I know this is the same for others too. My questions are:
1. When you raise your hand for a new booklet, does the proctor come right away? Should I plan ahead and raise my hand when I have about 1 or 2 questions left before running out of space? How smooth is the process? Trying to determine the risk vs reward of using less space and making more errors or using more space but potentially losing my momentum because I am not being noticed and wasting precious time.
2. I plan on starting with Verbal, which will use up like 2-3 pages. Will they let me get a completely new pad during the break between quant even if it's not used up?
Thanks so much! I think being prepared for this mentally in advance can really help with overall momentum and mental clarity.

1) Unfortunately the process of exchanging a pad is not always a smooth process. However, there are some things you can do to make the process as seamless as possible. When the time comes to switch out pads, just be strategic. As you are finishing up a problem, raise your hand, and even turn around quickly to make eye contact with the proctor. As you are finishing up the problem, they should bring you out the new pad. Also, before you start the test, alert the proctor that you likely will need a new pad during either the quant or verbal section, so the proctor looks out for you.

At most Test Facilities, the laminated pad that you will receive is 'legal-pad sized', so there's a lot of surface area for you to write on. That having been said, if you need a new pad at any point during the Exam, you can ask for one. Most of the Testing Labs have just one Moderator though - and if that person is helping someone else (or that person takes a few seconds to notice that your hand is raised), then you might need to wait a short amount of time to receive a new pad.
To minimize the impact of these types of potential delays, you should plan to exchange your pad during each of the two 8-minute breaks (just take it with you when you leave the Lab, give it to the Moderator and ask for a new one when you re-enter).
Before I can offer you any additional advice for your studies, it would help if you could provide a bit more information on how you've been studying and your goals:
Studies:
1) What study materials have you used so far?
2) On what dates did you take EACH of your CATs/mocks and how did you score on EACH (including the Quant and Verbal Scaled Scores for EACH)?
3) What is your overall goal score?
4) When are you planning to take the GMAT?
