Hi Hjort,
I am an Indian IT engineer looking to do an MBA in the US (yes...I know. One more :-D ). I just gave my GMAT recently and did pretty well. I am NOT going to ask you to evaluate my chances at various B-schools! However, I am going to ask something else of you. Could you please give me the list of the schools that are best known for General Management / Operations management in the:
1. Ultra Elite
2. Elite
3. Trans-Elite
categories?

This would really help me refine my search for the right program. Thanks!

Just one point: This list primarily include schools from the Ultra elite cluster. What about the elite/trans-elite cluster? I'm still pretty young (= less full time work experience). So I might not make it into these ultra-elite programs.

For the Trans Elite, Texas has been an impressive producer of CEOs and Carnegie Mellon has a strong academic reputation (and is receptive to young applicants).

Dartmouth, UVA, and Michigan have strong reputations for general management among the elites.

Quick question: I gave my GMAT recently (2nd week of Feb). Am I at a disadvantage if I use these scores to apply for Fall '08? My intention was to get the GMAT out of the way as quickly as possible so that I could spend considerable time finding programs that suited me best. I'm just hoping that I didn't 'get it out of the way' a little too soon.

Not really- if you can post a high score and clear the matter you have one less thing to worry about.
