Hi,
I signed up into this forum a year back but I must admit have been a passive spectator. And now when I am driven to the point of desparation Im seeking help from all quarters.
Let me introduce myself.I did my undergraduation in business from Chennai,India and post graduation in management from Bangalore.I worked with an ISP for 2 yrs but see my career heading in a particular way which I want to change with another MBA from some top international schools.
My first GMAT attempt
Aug 2005:I had been doing the basics for about 2 months before the exam but with hectic schedules the seriousness never set it until i booked my date.I took 3 weeks off from work and went all out to prepare.Kaplan,800score,ETS was what I used.My scores in the practice tests was in the 600-650 range. I thought Id end up in the 680 range.
Actual GMAT:Horrible 520. Realised that my preparation was absolutely inadequate and I knew I was capable of much more. Always thought quant was my weak area because throughout school it was, but turned out that verbal was the problem.
I decided to give it a break and not re-take GMAT until I was fully prepared.I gave it almost a year.(I was in no hurry to apply because I wanted to work for some more time before actually applying but i wanted to write the GMAT and keep the scores when Im ready to apply)
My second GMAT attempt.
Aug 2006:I took a complte 2 month break from work this time.Didnt want to risk anything this time. Thorough preparation. Started with the OG and then went on to the practice tests. Realised all that I did wrong the first time round.Joined the Princeton Review classes.Good as a refresher course but not enough.
Score ranges in practice tests
Kaplan 520 - 550
Princeton 520 - 620
800 score 540 - 660
Crack GMAT 510- 625
ETS (Old) 650 ,710
GMAT PRep 610,660
With all the tests I knew I had considerably improved in all areas.CR was giving me a problem right till the end.But I was confident that I would touch a 700 with this kind of prep.
Actuat GMAT: 550 Q41 V25. Was shocked and devastated. Just couldnt put my finger on what went wrong. I knew I started slow in Quant put picked up towards the end.WHen It came to Verbal I was getting unusually a lot of SCs. and i was thinking of how I did in Quant during the exam. But i remained focussed and thought I did decently well. It was a absolute shocker of a score .When I looked at that screen I thought it was a dream.
I was completely devastated for 2 days. Was contemplating taking it a third time. I know I can touch a 700.I am very confident. Now I have decided that I will take it immediately after a month which is September 2006.
I need help on how I can tweak my preparation to touch that 700.I know that taking GMAT more than twice can deter my chances of getting into a good school but I want to crack it one last time.I JUST HAVE TO!!
Please help with anything that you can.I have read the experiences of many over here and how this forum has helped them. I am very desparate this time because I cant mess up the third time. I havent booked a date as yet but I need to in the next 2 days.I figured I will never be this prepared again and I wont have the luxury of a 2 month preparation time because im getting back to work, so its better I take it now that much later.
PLEASE HELP!!
Thanks
