I have been planning to start GMAT prep. But, due to covid, my job role degraded and my working hour increased. It incorporates more traveling, more technical responsibilities, less leadership/managerial responsibilities.
I belong to oil and gas field. I’m a petroleum engineer with 6 years of professional experience. 4 years in India (GSPC Ltd.), as a Production Installation manager, 2 years in the UAE (Halliburton Worldwide Ltd.) as a field technical associate.
As my career is not going as I planned lately. I anticipated more of a leadership roles, but the current situation is such that it is getting delayed endlessly with tremendous pressure.
Lately, I was thinking to take a career break and prepare for GMAT so that I can speed up the process and minimize my time between present situation and MBA. How does such career break affect in the application round for reputed B-Schools. I’m scoring 670 in official mocks lately.
I would appreciate if I can get guidance on it.

I’m not sure where you’re hoping to apply, but any serious business school would want to see letters of recommendation and a strong resume.
I don’t usually recommend quitting ones job right before the business school applications start. My recommendation is to try to push back and find an hour and a half a day, preferably in the morning to study hard. At the same time, if your work is that terrible, perhaps quitting is the best option. You just want to make sure do you have a place to go to. I assume you would take at the most a month or two months break. You can definitely explain that short of a gap but I’m not sure you want to be applying without a job and chasing you recommenders. Even if you do have a job, you would’ve worked there for a month before you need a little recommendation and then you would believe it well there’s another nine months. I don’t think anyone wants to hire someone for like 10 months. You need to think through this.
I don’t think how it is a good idea. Taking a leave of absence could be a better option.

With 2 years of international experience you might have a healthy profile for top Bschools, so a 740+(Indian) becomes necessary here.
Give yourself a chance atleast by giving a real GMAT(assuming you haven't given one yet). If your score is near to your target schools' average with a reasonable tolerance, then you may still think(not leave) of leaving your job. If not, then don't leave; if higher, then of course you can.
There is a great deal of unknown factors that would affect you directly and indirectly, negatively. The post can become too long if i get into the nitty gritty of the situation you are into, so let's leave it for better.
All said, whatever bb said still holds 100% true, factually and technically.
