(E) Because it seemed to be

E

A. Logic error: "Seeming" modifies "many shareholders".

B. As if + a clause. "Seeming to be one of the few corporations diversified enough to survive the recession" cannot be a clause because " clasified enough" so "clasified" can not be verb, it is adj.

C. They....one error

D. Must be: seemed to be

In original sentence, we have an adjunct clause or dependent clause and so it has to modify the noun immediately following the clause, shareholders.
A is awkward, B changes the meanig. Eliminate both A & B. C sounds awful.

Between D and E, because is logical, and although is not. There is no contrast in this sentence.
Also, verb tenses are parrallel.

E

So A has a modifier issue?

Yes

Seeming to be one of the few corporations diversified enough to survive the recession, many shareholders

'Seeming...' must be followed by Emco, not shareholders.

E for me because of meaning of sentence. We have to provide a reason that investors bought the share though profits went down.

OA plzz?

Inverting the clauses. Main clause contain Emco company and the sub ordinate clause refers by using an 'it'.
Also seems should be wither followed by to be or that.
Because it seemed to be - makes the cut above all.

B,C and D are wrong...if D were

Alhough it seemed to be....

may be we have kept it. Anyways between A and E, A is also wrong as it should have been...

Seeming to be one of the few corporations diversified enough to survive the recession,Emco......

So answer has to be D.

Answer: E

since the whole clause is modifying the many shareholders , shouldn't C be the answer ... i picked C coz of that..... any logical explanation is most welcomed
