Yes, definitely think it is better suited for people who already have a full time job offer. Sure, some companies might be willing to fly you back for an interview. However, take a look at it from a recruiter's perspective. They have a limited amount of time and money to fill a class. And the difference between someone they really like, versus someone they kinda like is not that different. Rarely will they go far out of their process to make something like that happen.

Can anyone give any insight on the potential total cost of, let's say, an exchange program for 3 months in a European B-School??

I would think the biggest advantage is that you get to live and study in a new area of the world, which is always a plus. It establishes more cultural sensitivity and awareness. You will also be be subjected to teachers you wouldn't have been had you stayed at you home B-School.

The biggest disadvantage is that the social groups will have already been formed at the school you do a semester at, therefore the "wider" network you establish won't exactly be of a quality kind. Also you will be losing out on what is happening at your home B-School and the wider connections you can make there.

There's always a plus and negative side, but it just depends what you are looking for really.
