you can search the name of the school in the search.. so ideally you wouldnt need to write down the codes, but if you are skeptical and not sure if you are selecting the right school, you can take the codes with you...
since this activity happens before the start of the exam, the test officials allow you to carry these codes, if there is nothing else written in there... or alternatively, they take the paper of codes from you before you step in, but you can request them to come to your desk and check just before you confirm the schools, if you wish to verify you have all the codes right...

I wasn't allowed to carry the codes with me inside the testing room - so I guess rules may vary. But don't worry - you will 100% be able to select the schools from the list.
