Hi All,
I attended a top liberal arts college, and studied abroad for a semester where I failed 2 out of 3 courses and did poorly on a third due to a classmate death and my immaturity.
Do I still have to send my study abroad transcript (it is mentioned on my undergrad transcript in a line e.g., University of Foreign Country, 1.75 credits although no grades are shown). Do I have to send in a formal unofficial transcript, or can I just send a PDF of the program's grades portal which shows the grade?
Thank you!
Thanks for sharing — it’s clear you went through a difficult time, and it’s good that you’re addressing it head-on.
Regarding your question: if the study abroad semester is
mentioned on your official undergrad transcript, most MBA programs will want to see the
official transcript (even if it's unofficial, it should be from the host university or the program directly). A PDF from the grade portal might not be accepted unless it's accompanied by some form of official validation.
It’s always safest to
check directly with each school's admissions office, as policies vary. Some are stricter, while others might be more flexible, especially if the grades don’t factor into your cumulative GPA.
Also, for applicants navigating complicated academic histories or international records, platforms like
Education Vibes often outline how transcripts from foreign institutions are typically evaluated. That could help you better understand what documentation is necessary.
Best of luck with your applications — your self-awareness will definitely work in your favor during the process.
