Hello Guys,
Sets (Venn Diagram) is an area where I get stuck at times.
While going thru gmatprep sets explanation I encountered the following -
[In sets I follow- AUB = A + B - A∩B.]
Q-1 Each of 25 people is enrolled in history, mathematics or both. If 20 are enrolled in history and 18 in mathematics, how many are enrolled in both?
Here i thought AUB is 25 so equation would be -
25 = (20-n) + (18-n) - n (AUB) = (A) + (B) - A∩B
But the it is solved as -
25 = (20-n) + (18-n) + n why plus?? not minus for intersection.
Help will be appreaciated. Can anyone provide a ques bank for sets or how can I improve myself regarding such questions.? Have been on lookout to improve regarding SETS but didnt find much material/explanations. Any idea where I can get?
Thanks,
(Note: you can also see the gmatprep explanation in IMAGE attached below)

The same question as one I raised some days ago! And I found that if you want to use the fomula: (AUB) = (A) + (B) - A∩B, then 25=20+18-n, not 25 = (20-n) + (18-n) - n.
There is another way of solving such types of questions Total=A+B-(A+B)+ Neither In this case Total=25, A=20, B=18, Neither=0 Put values 25=20+18- both+0 Both=38-25=13
