Hi MRIDUL,

Your practice CAT scores are remarkably consistent, which means that 'your way' of dealing with the GMAT will likely earn you a score right around 600 if you take the Test as scheduled. Looking at it another way, you are NOT likely to increase your score 100+ points in 2 weeks. As such, you really should reschedule your GMAT as you've discussed.

By rescheduling for the end of October, you would have almost 2 months of additional study time, which could make a big difference in your overall importance.

Based on your CAT scores, you have the potential to pick up BIG points in BOTH the Quant and Verbal sections, so focusing on CR right now (which is often the 'smallest' category in the Verbal section) seems like an odd choice given your overall situation and goals. Focusing on '700-level' question is also NOT what you should be working on either. It looks like you've taken a 'book-heavy' study approach, which is likely part of the 'problem.' Many Test Takers who study in that way end up getting 'stuck' at a particular scoring level, and that's likely what has happened to you. To make the big improvement that you're looking to make, you're likely going to need to invest in some new non-book resources with a focus on learning new tactics.

Which Business Schools are you planning to apply to?

HI Rich,

Firstly, thank you for such a detailed response.
I'm a final year undergrad student majoring in computer science.
I'm currently looking to apply for europe based masters in management programs.
My target schools are HEC paris, ESCP europe, and london business school.

The median gmat for HEC is 710 so i want my gmat if not great, then to be atleast at that level.

Moreover i'm narrowing down on online verbal courses.I've read good reviews about egmat's verbal online.
i definitely feel i need to reschedule. :!:

Regards,
MRIDUL

Hi MRIDUL,

You've named some competitive Schools, so scoring at a higher level on the GMAT is a must. Since you're a computer science major, I have to assume that you know how to calculate an average and determine the median of a group of numbers. As such, *wanting* a 710+ GMAT Score is NOT the same as *needing* a 710+ GMAT score - this is all meant to say that you actually need a score that is 'in range' of your Schools, not necessarily one that is at/above the median.

Based on the CAT scores you've listed, you need to work on BOTH the Quant and Verbal sections, so you need more than just new Verbal resources. Most GMAT Companies offer some type of free materials (practice problems, Trial Accounts, videos, etc.) that you can use to 'test out' a product before you buy it. We have a variety of those resources at out site (www.empowergmat.com). I suggest that you take advantage of all of them, then choose the one that best matches your personality, timeline and budget.

If you have any additional question, then just let me know.

Hey Mridul,
As others have pointed out, your scores are remarkably consistent. I scored in the 680-720 range on the Manhattan tests, but my Quant scores were similar to yours. So what I suggest is you take the Official practice tests and see what your quant scores are. I realized that Manhattan Tests Quants are very tedious. So I think you will score higher on the official practice tests. If you score in the range of 48-51 there, then you will have to improve your verbal to reach the score you want to. But again how much improvement will depend on what your practice scores are. But I think its possible to focus on SC and improve your score significantly if you are not already close to 80-90% efficiency on SC.

I would say just keep practicing and checking why certain answers are wrong and why are they right. You learn a lot from forums.

Good luck!

Hi npathak,

Firstly, thank you for the response.

I too have observed that the manhattan prep tests are hard and i have already exhausted 5 0f them so i don't want to waste my last mock and two official mocks before i do some serious introspection.I think from what i have read on the forum and after solving questions on question pack 1 of varying difficulty i'm somewhere around that Q48-Q49 level ,and i feel that i'll be able to stay or maybe improve upto a Q50 if i put in some more effort.Verbal is something i 'm having a hard time with.i have joined e-gmat's verbal online and rescheduled my gmat to oct 30.Hopefully, it will help me improve my verbal. :)

Don't forget to buy the extra official exam pack. Those are quite useful. Yeah I joined the E-gmat verbal online after my first test. Although I was more interested in some extra practice questions, going through their SC was really helpful. Especially their SC on tenses which was my weakness.

A tip to improve your Quant would be, if you have identified your weakness go to the topic wise question bank on this forum and work on the question in those ares. My weakness was inequality. So working on those questions was quite helpful.

Good luck!

EMPOWERgmatRichC I have my GMAT in the next three days and I have been getting a score just touching my target score. Now I am planning to reschedule it for a further 15 days so that I can score well above my target score because I have realised my potential now. Another reason why I do not want to give it twice is because I do not want my previous score to be shown on my GMAT score report, I would rather have a good score in one go. Need your opinions!

Consider checking out the score cancelling options on the MBA website. You can reinstate a cancelled score later on if you wish for a fee.

Hi Prasesh,

There are a few subjects to discuss here. First, since you are so close to your Test Day appointment, the fee to reschedule would be significant - and if you could potentially hit your Goal Score in 3 days, then there's not much of a reason to pay to push your Exam back. Second, Business Schools generally do not care if you take the GMAT more than once - so having more than one Score on file shouldn't be an issue. Third, you can always 'cancel' your Score on Test Day after you see it (and pay a fee if you want to re-activate it later), so if you're really that concerned about sending more than one Score, then you can take a proactive step on Test Day to make sure that that doesn't happen.
