Hello everyone,
I am writing to inquire about admission into the top MSc Econ programs offered by prestigious universities such as Oxford, Imperial, LSE, UCL, BU, Columbia, UChicago for Economics. I took my GRE, unofficial score around 306 (159-Q, 147-V). I have gained eight research experiences from think tanks and various universities such as UCL, etc., from Brazil, Chile, the US, and the UK. Additionally, I have completed four certification courses, held leadership roles in college societies, and volunteered for four international organizations. My current CGPA is 7.5/10, but I strive to improve it to 8/10 in the finals. Based on my qualifications, what are my chances of being accepted into these programs? Should I apply as their cutoff seems to be high?
Thank you.
Hey
dalal.ishika,
Your extensive research experience and international exposure are commendable, but your GRE score is on the lower side for top MSc Economics programs. Despite this, your strong research background and international exposure might partly compensate for the lower GRE score. You should realistically assess each program's requirements and consider applying to a mix of reach and safety schools.
For school selection, aim for programs like UCL, KCL, and Cass. The University of Exeter, University of Birmingham and Cranfield can be considered among safe options. Improving your GRE score and aiming for something like 320+ could significantly enhance your chances at more competitive programs, and highlighting your contributions to research projects, especially those that led to publications or were implemented in policy or practice, will be crucial in your applications.
