I am an ISB YLP admit and my MBA starts next year i.e. Summer 23. I am facing a dilemma, wherein I am not able to decide whether I should go with this or whether I should get a deferral(i.e. to Summer 2024).
My profile -
1. Working in a project management role with a decent salary.
2. Having a work experience of around 20 months(when I join the school)
3. Aspire to be in a product role post-MBA.
What would be the prudent decision to make keeping in mind the economic situation right now?
Generally speaking, I would agree with the views of the previous poster, provided the advice was for a Top 20 program.
My views for an ISB degree however, would be very different, mainly for the following reasons:
1) Deferrals are just postponing your decisions, not giving them up; given you have a decent job, you may want to explore how far this can take you (before you do an MBA) and then go for MBA, simply because you may be better poised to understand the MBA concepts post 3-4 years of your job, than now. Deferring the decision for one year, you may be able to make a more informed decision.
2) Off late the ISB MBA has been losing its sheen, especially for global jobs. If you however, intend to stay in India for good, you may have a different preference.
3) Given your preference for a Product role post MBA, you may not get access to high responsibility roles/ positions post your ISB YLP; However, working for 3-4 years, and then doing another MBA may be able to help you on that path much more.
Hope it helps
