I'm looking to solicit people's opinions on whether or not I should return for an MBA. I've been admitted to Sloan for Fall '08 (HBS was only other school I applied to but dinged). A little about me:
Undergrad/grad from MIT in EE / 5.5 years W.E. at top IB / 1 year on strategy team at F500 tech co
I'm looking at school as an opportunity to build my network and potentially launch something on my own when I graduate. In case I dont find something I'm passionate about to start, I would go back to my current job until the right time. But I have a few concerns about getting my MBA:
1) My current job is very interesting and the challenge/pay/hours combo is excellent
2) I'm older (30 upon matriculation), recently married and perhaps bitter from 6 years of IB, so I'm reluctant to spend 80 hours a week working on problem sets, papers and projects. I'm looking for a bit "softer" experience than MIT undergrad was.
3) Given my career options of doing something on my own or going back to my current job, is the MBA worth it / needed at this stage of my career?
I'm curious if anyone else is or has been in a similar situation. Also, does anyone know if Sloan is as academically intense as the undergrad school?
Would appreciate any insight.
