Hi everyone,
I am starting my GMAT preparations now and plan to give GMAT exam by end of August 2022. Should I go for a study plan or should I do it without one?
Can you suggest to me some ways on how I should go about it?
Hello,
ishaubhi, or perhaps I should say hello again. (We have crossed paths before, I believe.) There are many paths you can take for your preparation—e.g., using this site alone, the newest
Official Guide, self-prep books, an online course—but you do want to work within a solid structure to keep from aimlessly completing questions in hopes that you will pick up everything you need as you go. Of course, a lot depends on the score you hope to earn and where you currently stand, relative to that score. I would recommend familiarizing yourself with what is on the test, both in terms of general content and specific question types (DS and PS in Quant). Once you have done this, you can set your sights on taking a mock exam. Official practice exams 1 and 2 are free through your mba.com account, and you can reset them as many times as you wish.
Be flexible if you start a self-prep journey but then hit a plateau. It is quite common. At that point, you can reassess whether you are able to correct the issues that may be holding you back or you need more guidance. There are plenty of self-prep success stories, so do not doubt yourself. Just set realistic and actionable goals. At first, that might mean completing
the Official Guide Diagnostic Test (found in editions from 2020 and before) or gaining exposure to official questions through some other means. Then, you might choose to focus on areas you struggled with, and take things from there. Again, just make sure to pause once in a while for review, or you will fall into the endless question run that many self-preppers find themselves lost in.
Good luck with your studies.
