Hi folks,
I applied to Booth, CBS, Kellogg and Ross in R2. I have been waitlisted at CBS and Ross and dinged after interviews at Booth at Kellogg.
I am a second MBA applicant and am really confused if I should reapply in the R1 or accept an admit if offered? Although chances at CBS seem bleak.
My post MBA goal is consulting and my major concern is student debt north of 150k at astronomical interest rates.
Some guidance would be much appreciated.

Hi Blackbay92,

If you receive an offer from a school that meets your needs and you're comfortable with the finances, then accepting the offer might be the best decision. Ross and CBS are both good options for consulting.

On the other hand, if your waitlists do not convert and if you feel that you have a strong chance of getting admitted to slightly lower ranked schools in the next application cycle with good scholarships, and are willing to invest the time and effort in improving your application, then reapplying might be the best option.

We are happy to provide more detailed evaluation and insights. During our application analysis session, our team of seasoned consultants will conduct a thorough review of your application materials. We'll deliver a comprehensive analysis that highlights areas for improvement and identifies potential factors that may have influenced your waitlist/ding decisions.

For a more detailed 1-1 strategy session, please write to [email protected] or fill the form at http://www.admitexpert.com

Good luck!

Hey Blackbay92,

Navigating the MBA application process can be challenging, and it's understandable to feel confused and uncertain about your next steps. Here are a few points to consider as you weigh your options:

Assess Your Waitlist Status: If you are waitlisted at CBS and Ross, it means the admissions committee sees potential in your application but couldn't offer you admission immediately. It's worth exploring the possibility of remaining on the waitlist, as it indicates they are still considering your candidacy. Reach out to the respective schools to inquire about your chances of acceptance and any steps you can take to strengthen your application during this period.

Reflect on Your Interview Performance: Since you were dinged after interviews at Booth and Kellogg, it may be useful to evaluate your interview performance and consider seeking feedback if available. Identifying any areas of improvement can help you refine your approach if you choose to reapply in the future.

Weigh Your Debt Concerns: Consider the financial implications of pursuing another MBA, particularly with a significant student debt burden. Take a close look at the potential return on investment (ROI) and evaluate the long-term impact of debt. Research the post-MBA salaries in the consulting industry to understand if the financial benefits align with your goals.

Ultimately, the decision of whether to reapply or accept an offer, if extended, is a personal one that should take into account your career aspirations, financial considerations, and overall satisfaction with the options available to you. Take the time to thoroughly evaluate your goals and explore all possible avenues before making a decision.

We would be delighted to arrange a meeting for you with our team of profile experts to have an in-depth discussion about your profile and explore additional opportunities to enhance your chances of getting admitted to top B-schools. Please feel free to schedule a free profile evaluation call with our profile experts at your convenience.

Good luck!

Blackbay92 hope this finds you well

Honestly, I wouldn't jump to conclusions without knowing more about your profile (your background, reason for a 2nd MBA, your industry expertise, GMAT etc). Whether you should go with CBS or Ross if you convert the waitlists should depend on how your current professional situation compares with taking 150k+ debt in case you do not get any scholarship.

Best wishes

Hi Blackbay92,

Your situation is unique and thus you will need to think about two key aspects:

1. Second MBA applicant: We have been consistently working with applicants from top business schools within India who want to further their professional careers in a global setting, gain an international perspective due to which they aspire for a second MBA with a top global business school. Since we don't know your detailed background, think about the following key aspects:
-Are you on a strong career trajectory within Corporate India and looking at a leadership position within a couple of years?
-Do you want to stay in India in the long term?
-Have you received strong business education both from a soft skills and hard skills perspective such that you don't really find technical / knowledge challenges while executing your duties?
If the answer to all the above questions is Yes, you probably would be better off pursuing your professional career within Corporate India.
However, if the answer if No, then you can consider an International MBA depending on your aspirations

2. Round 2 applications: The waitlist can be a nerve wrecking situation to be in and thus its in your best interest to be proactive and make an active outreach effort to members of CBS and Ross community. Waitlist do tend to move, but there is limited movement in our experience beyond May (particularly for international students).
-If there are any developments in you profile since your application, do share them with the adcom.
-If you are unable to get knocked off the waitlist, you should definitely consider applying to the same schools again in Round 1 and Early Action deadline (if they have them next year).
-However, one word of caution, just like algorithms same input will result in same output, so its best to work your reapplication strategy well in advance and figure out potential areas of improvement in the time gap between now and the first deadline.

Lastly, our read is that the forex rates are not going anywhere for the next 1 year or so, thus if finances are a challenge for you, its best to apply to a set of school that will give tuition aid and scholarships. Please don't be fixated on the rankings, there are a good set of schools where you can land a good scholarship and pursue your dream consulting job.
Consulting firms typically look for strong academic aptitude, problem solving ability, prior experience and communication skills as their top recruiting criteria.

Please feel free to reach out to us if you wish to discuss your situation in detail.

Best regards,
