Hi legolasc,

715 is an awesome score. I don't see any reason to retake.

Wow. Congratulations on your score!

1. I would not retake even though the score came easily. I don’t think it’s worth spending the money and the time unless you have plenty of both and want to really stand out.

2. Your score only has so much power. If you are not a strong applicant but you have an amazing score, it’s not gonna get you in but a bad score can keep you out. Once you have met the average for your applicant pool or for the program, It can be helpful if you have a lower GPA or some other aspects of your profile that needs to have a very resounding answer about your abilities.

3. Based on the most accurate person tiles, 715 is 99th percentile and therefore kind of the highest score you can get in terms of percentiles and so probably good enough to settle and call it a day.

I recently took my first GMAT and got a score of (715, Q86, V89, D82). I spent about 30 hours for preparation (mainly practicing).

In the exam, I got 1 mistake in Q (ended 15 minutes early), 1 mistake in V, and 8 mistakes in D. In the mock exam, the average for me was higher for Q but lower for V (I didn't expect such a high Verbal score).

My target is top MFIN programs such as Oxford/MIT. I have looked at the the conversion table and class profiles of these programs and found that the equivalent score (715 is equivalent to 760) is above average for all the programs. I have three questions. First, I heard that GMAT was like a Pass/Fail option, and a GMAT score higher than certain value would not add to the success rate of the application, is that true? Second, is 715 really equivalent to 760 of the original GMAT? Finally, should I retake?

Thanks in advance for all feedback.
