Hi there,

I just got a 710 on my GMAT (49Q, 38V), IR 8 and AWA pending. I would like to apply for the Harvard 2+2 program. My question is, should I retake? I got 750 on a GMAT prep test, but didn't actually think I'd done any worse on the real thing.

Some background - I'm going into my final year at Cambridge University. Just completed the three-year Economics degree and got a 2.1, now I'm studying 'Management' for a year (not a masters - just an additional year of my undergrad). I've got very good extracurriculars. I've done one 8-week internship in management consulting with PwC.

Any reason I wouldn't get an interview?

I would recommend talking with an admissions consultant (or calling the admissions group itself). I can't tell you if you will get an interview, but I do know that having a super high GMAT score isn't a guarantee of admission and a 710 is a good score. That said, higher scores are better...

Let's talk about score maximization. It does look like you have the ability to increase your score. You were practicing at a higher level and it looks like you might have only taken the exam once. If it's accurate that you did only take the GMAT once and you don't have "GMAT fatigue" I would recommend looking hard at taking another shot at the exam.

Thanks for the advice Kyle.

I was wondering if a retake would in any way disadvantage my application to Harvard or indeed to any other business school?

Also, it would be great if you could let me know how to get in touch with come admission consultants.

No, a retake will have no ill-effect on your application. Schools assume that you will take the test multiple times and do not average your scores.

For admissions consultants, I would do some web searching to look for some options. Manhattan GMAT is aligned with MBA Mission, and they offer a free consultation so they are a good group to reach out to (https://www.mbamission.com/consult.php).
