Hi everyone,
Longtime lurker here who just wanted to get some thoughts. I took my first official GMAT about a week ago and scored 770 (with a q49 but great scores in verbal, IR and writing). I am very pleased with this overall score but am less pleased with my 49 in quant, particularly since that translates to a 75th percentile according to my official score report. I will likely only apply to HBS, Wharton, Columbia and one or two others (will probably not go to business school at all if I don't get in).
When I originally signed up for my test I also signed up for a second date in a couple months in case of any issues with my first test. I am now contemplating whether to keep and study for this appointment with the hopes of raising my quant score (and cancelling my score if I do not succeed) or just cancel the appointment now. Ordinarily I'd see no downside to doing a second test where I could cancel if I'm not happy with my score, but I'm concerned that schools might view me as obsessed with testing to retake a 770, even if I do get a better quant or overall score.
I'm not planning to apply this year so I'm in no rush to get essays written, etc.
Would love to hear people's perspective on this situation and if it's worth it to retake, weighing the q49 against how schools might perceive a retake. Thank you!
