Hi jyotiramaraju,

With a score goal of 700+, you'll have to make some significant improvements in BOTH the Quant and Verbal sections over your prior 600 on the Official GMAT (moreso than just improving in RC). Before I can offer you the specific advice that you’re looking for, it would help if you could provide a bit more information on how you've been studying and your goals:

Studies:
1) When did you take each of your 2 Official GMATs?
2) How long did you study for each attempt?
3) What study materials have you used so far?
4) How have you scored on each of your recent practice CATs (including the Quant and Verbal Scaled Scores for each)?
5) Did you take the FULL CAT each time (with the Essay and IR sections)?

Goals:
6) When are you planning to apply to Business School?
7) What Schools are you planning to apply to?

Below are my answers to those questions
1) When did you take each of your 2 Official GMATs? I took the 2 tests in 2015 with a gap of 2 month

How long did you study for each attempt? For the first attempt I studied for 3 months and then after that I gave a break of say 15 days and studied for the second attempt which I gave after 2 months

What study materials have you used so far? I used the og complete one and one specific to verbal. Apart from that no other things. I took the free mocks which are available

How have you scored on each of your recent practice CATs (including the Quant and Verbal Scaled Scores for each)? I did not study for more than an year but started a month ago.... First I tried the official GMAT prep mock 1 and I scored 580 then in GMAT club mock I scored around 650 scaled score

Did you take the FULL CAT each time (with the Essay and IR sections)? Nope just quant and verbal

When are you planning to apply to Business School? For th 2018 batch so need to start my applications by august
What Schools are you planning to apply to? Isb , sp jains

Hi jyotiramaraju,

Since your two Official GMAT Scores are well over a year old, they're not a great indicator of your current skills. Since you have not taken a FULL CAT (with the Essay and IR sections) since you restarted your studies, I highly recommend that you do so someone soon (perhaps this weekend). Make sure to take a NEW CAT (one that you have not taken before) and make sure to take the FULL CAT (with the Essay and IR sections) in one sitting. Once you have that score result, we can discuss how best to proceed with your studies.

Since your previous exam scores are more than two years old, I would recommend you to take this preparation as a fresh start.

You need to build the concepts/fundamentals before you jump in solving the problems. You can do so by choosing one of the following ways:
1. In person classes/private tutoring
2. Online classes
3. Self paced online preparatory course
4. Book heavy approach

Whatever you choose, make sure that you choose one. Because GMAT tests you on some concepts and fundamentals that you can learn from a course. Most of the preparatory companies including ours offer a free trial of our course. You can take the trial and see if the course suits your needs.

In addition to the preparatory material, buy the Official Guides(both the Official Guide and the Verbal Review), Question Pack 1 and the 4 official mock CATs. They should be an indispensable part of your preparation.

You need close to 3 months to prepare well for the GMAT.
1. Understand the concepts and fundamentals before jumping into problem solving
2. Solve full length CATs including AWA and IR. You can get two free GMAT Prep mock CATs and can purchase two more from mba.com
3. Make sure you solve the official questions from the Official Guide
