Hi all,
One of the many questions on this forum: Should I or should I not retake the GMAT?
Now is early Oct and I’m targeting round 2 applications.
And my first attempt score is as above 680(Q49/V34)...what a disappointing verbal score I know.
I think it’s in the okay range but I was expecting 700+ and targeting top tier B-schools so my current score is definitely below average.
Just a bit of my profile background:
I graduated from a top-tier Asia university with an engineering degree (my grades were average).
But I have 5 years working experience in a management consulting firm in 3 different Asian countries.
So, I think I still have time for another attempt end Oct or early Nov to make it on time until round 2 closing?
But should I be focusing my efforts into other areas like resumes and recommendations instead?

First off, a 680/Q49 is a fantastic score (it's right around the 85th percentile overall), so it could be enough to get you into your first-choice School. As such, a retest might not be necessary. Depending on the Schools that you plan to apply to, you would likely find it beneficial to speak with an Admissions Expert about your overall profile. There's a Forum full of those Experts here:

I’m glad you reached out, and I’m happy to help. The good news is that 680 (with a Q49) is a really solid starting point. I realize that score is not quite at your goal, but you shouldn’t be totally disappointed by that score. That being said, since your score is below the averages at your desired programs, I think a retake is probably necessary. Also, it wouldn’t hurt to reach out to one of the many admissions consultants on GMAT Club to get an additional opinion.
