Last year, I took the toefl with no stellar results 263 (L22S28R28) but above the minimum requirement.
This year, I concentrated my efforts on the GMAT and obtained 740 (Q50 V42).
Considering the Wharton toefl mean, I am worried about my toefl.
Could somebody comment whether I have take the toefl again or state my verbal progression in the optional essay?

The TOEFL is usually a threshold criterion- once you exceed the stated passing score a higher score adds little.
Considering your GMAT score and what I trust will be well-written essays, I do not think the TOEFL should be a major concern in your case. However, the safest route would be to retake it and clear the issue.
