Hello everyone,
I am a final year undergraduate student from India and want to do MBA in a reputed US university.
I am planning on writing GMAT now in my final year and doing a job for the next two years and in the meantime make my MBA resume better (Volunteering etc).
I have learnt that even though GMAT has 5 years validity the schools prefer 3 years at most, will this be a problem? I am planning to write GMAT now because I think I will not find much time once in the job. So what should be my approach? Also, my GPA is 7 and I have learnt that the US schools ask you not to convert in into 4-scale but I am wondering how my 7 GPA will be perceived by the adcom, will it be considered to be around 3 or 3.5?

Hi,
I think writing your GMAT in the final year of college is a good idea. I am following the same strategy since I want to get GMAT out of the way at the earliest (and take another attempt if required) while I still have the study momentum. I doubt if I (and in this case you) will have the opportunity to dedicate adequate time to prep alongside a corporate job or fulltime volunteer work. The only downside is that a score which is considered a 95 percentile today may not remain the same 4 or 5 years later.
Through all the reading that I have done, I have come to the conclusion that the Indian CGPA system is interpreted very differently from school to school, sometimes even depending on which undergrad college you've attended. Aside from an actual adcom member, I don't think anyone can provide a very accurate answer to your question. At best you could try sending the schools you are interested in an email asking for information about their policy.

I think taking GMAT 3 years earlier shouldn't be any problem.
GPA in scale of 10 should be converted to scale of 4 to help Admission Council easier to judge candidates' applications.
