C--->continue to sharply rise is wrong. "continue to rise sharply" is the right form of it.

C looks the best as well as idiomatic .. The idiom is rightly written ... but "sharply rise" still creates a doubt .. what's the OA and OE??

If C had been "If metal prices continue to rise sharply" instead of "sharply rise", then C would have been a better choide.

A doesn't make much of a sense to me ... reason being .. here we are treating metal prices to be the subject of the sentence and saying that they are continuing "their" rise ... "metal prices " is not a tangible object which can continue its rise .... also the inverted order has made the sentence hard to understand ... OA shouldn't be A .. C, although looking awkward, is still gramatically correct .. sharply is an adverb modifying the verb rise ... does anybody have a better explanation?? what's the OA and OE BTW???

C is wrong due to 'split infinitive' (just learned that today ;-)

) B requires 'then' to follow 'if'. D&E, I can't explain it but it just sounds horribly wrong. I'll go with A.

Very late, but (A) for the same reasons. To sharply rise should be restated as ---> to rise sharply. ThisSC did violate the split infinitive rule.
