Along with an end to the class system and serfdom, the Chinese have abolished many of the other traditional institutions of the Tobetan way of life.

(A) Along with an end to the class system and serfdom -> Chinese has put an end. Along with an end doesn't imply that
(B) Besides putting an end to the class system and serfdom -> Correctly imply The chinese have put an end
(C) Not only did they end the class system and serfdom, but -> Not only should be followed by But Also - Idiom Error
(D) Together with the class system and serfdom coming to an end -> Chinese has put an end. Coming to an end doesn't imply that
(E) In addition to the class system and serfdom coming to an end -> Chinese has put an end. Coming to an end doesn't imply that

Answer - B

(C) Not only did they end the class system and serfdom, but
(D) Together with the class system and serfdom coming to an end

Along with an end to the class system and serfdom, the Chinese have abolished many of the other traditional institutions of the Tobetan way of life.

(A) Along with an end to the class system and serfdom -- The introductory modifier doesn't sync with the main subject since the Chinese could be in addition to the class system amd serfdom.
(B) Besides putting an end to the class system and serfdom -- correct choice
(C) Not only did they end the class system and serfdom, but -- the shift of tense is ungrammatical
(D) Together with the class system and serfdom coming to an end--- modification doesn't sync as in A
(E) In addition to the class system and serfdom coming to an end -- -Same problem as in A and D.

(A) Incorrect. “Along with an end ..., the Chinese...” — not parellel

(B) Correct. Besides putting an end to the class system and serfdom—correctly modifying the Chinese.

(C) Incorrect usage of “Not only..., but also...”

(D) Incorrect. Too wordy.

(E) Incorrect. In addition to the class system and serfdom..., the Chinese..—Not parallel.

The answer is B

IMO B

Besides putting an end to the X and Y, The Chinese

The meaning of the sentence is conveyed appropriately.

ACD and E do not convey who has put an end to it. Hence incorrect.

Bunuel any chance you can add the official explanation?

Just to clear things a little bit -

not only X, but Y is an acceptable usage. see --> https://gmatclub.com/forum/not-only-did ... ml#p761904
so you CANNOT eliminate option C based on this rule.

Also, "they" should be fine as the non-underlined portion uses "have"

The only good explanation (in my understanding) for this question is from daagh.
