Analysis:
1.All the options uses correct idiom from X to Y
2. The use of word since gives us the intention of the author. The intended meaning is from that the event started and till now the effect and/or the action is present. this warrants for the use of Present Perfect tense.
Option A: Incorrect : Use of simple past 'grew' is not correct.
Option B: Incorrect : uses Present Perfect ' have grown' , but the same is plural verb form and thus does not matches with the singular subject 'number'.
Option C: Incorrect : Use of present continuous 'are growing ' is not correct. Moreover, the verb form is plural and thus does not matches with the singular subject 'number'.
Option D: Incorrect : Use of simple present 'grow' is not correct.Moreover, the verb form is plural and thus does not matches with the singular subject 'number'.
Option E: Correct : Correct verb form present perfect 'has grown' is used. The verb form is singular that matches with the singular subject 'number'.

We need a present continuous tense with "since", So A, C, and D are out.
