Since the recent takeover of publishing concerns by communications-entertainment firms, management's new methods have increased the financila profits of commercial publishing, at the price of narrowing the range of books made available to the public and by catering to the vulgar tastes of the new buyers of books. Business has boomed; but the losers are the majority of authors or aspiring writers, and all discriminating readers.
