Ratio of profit= Ratio of Investment * Ratio of time
R.P=2:1*2:3= 4:3
Profit Radha =4/7 * 16800 = 9600

Sita and Radha started a business jointly. If Sita invests $6000 for one year and Radha invests $12000 for 8 months, then out of a total profit of $16800, find the share of Radha ?

(A) $8200
(B) $8600
(C) $9200
(D) $9600
(E) $9800

Hey rrdeo,

Thank you for the solution. I still do not understand why you have multiplied the ratio of investments and the time it has been invested for. I would understand this if it was the case that they are investing a fixed amount every month. But since Radha is in fact investing 2x that of Sita, should she not have a 2/3 ownership in the shares?

Would really be grateful if you can help me understand this question.

Ratio of investment 6 : 12 -> 1 : 2
Duration -> 12 months and 8 months

Thus profit equation -> 1*12*k + 2*8*k = 16800 => 28k = 16800 => k= 600

Second share -> 16k= 16*600 = 9600 (D)

Can also solve this as:

Ratio of share-> sita : radha

12000*8/6000*12 = 4/3

Share of radha -> 4/7*16800

=9600

Option: D
