Initially I was thrown off by the form y = mx^2 + b, I am used to the form y = mx + b, so my reasoning may be totally wrong.
From the question stem:
Line 1 is intersecting y-axis at (0, b)
Line 2 is intersecting y-axis at (0, d)
Statement1: The slope of the equation is reversed, so one is moving up and the other is moving down but we do nott know whether they will meet.
Statement2: Line 1 may intersect y-axis at (0,4) and line 2 may intersect y-axis at (0, -4) but we do not know their slopes so inconclusive.
Both statements put together,we know that one slopes upwards and other downwards and they intersect y axis at different points, so yes they will have to meet at some place.
