Hjort ,
I am working in the DC metro area for a technology firm with around 9 yrs exp. I Like the technology industry and would continue in the same area but would like to work on Strategic Planning, Business development and other Management Roles in future.
I am considering the Exec MBA from UNC / DUKE for 2007 intake. I am also considering Georgetown for the next fall.
My boss recommended me to consider the Smith Part time MBA option also which made me looking for some additional information and how it compares with the Exec MBA.
My Short term Goals: Work in the same company and contribute more on the Management front like working on Mergers and Acquisition , Finance and planning. Since my company also has a venture arm I have a good chance of getting into that role. Get more experience in the areas of business I am not familiar and also build a strong network.
Long term goals: Want to move to Asia and manage operations for the Asia Pacific region for an MNC.
Reason for considering UNC / Duke : Strong International Brand name , good ranking. School good at general management , Entrepreneurship , leadership , marketing. More international focussed MBA.
RH Smith is also a good school with a good curriculum and a very strong presence in this area. Even the companies recruiting the full time students were comparable with UNC . More over the program is technology focussed and has good rankings for certain fields.
This has got me thinking about the Smith Program even though it does not come under the top 20 list. Will the part time MBA be viewed on par with the Exec MBA ? And also how well is the Smith MBA known worldwide.
Will the MBA be valued if I decide to move out of the area or move to Asia?
Looking for your inputs.
