Can anyone clearly define the usage difference between "as much as" and "so much as"

So much as relates to some minimum amount, where as much as is a comparative expression.

An example. "If you do so much as look at my sister the wrong way, I'm going to beat you to a pulp."

It means anything as small as this.

Whereas if I said, "this guy annoys me, but not nearly as much as the guy who bothers my sister." I'm comparing my verb which is annoys.

Another example would be, "My husband is awful at helping to keep the house clean. He won't even do so much as wash a dish."

Meaning that this thing is a real minimum standard and he won't even do that.

With the other expression we could say, "It makes me happy when my husband washes dirty dishes, but not as much as when he does the laundry."

Here we're comparing two things.
