SS97:
Replying to reach of your questions individually:
1. Which B-schools have decent/known programs in this space? It seems Yale, Haas has pretty decent programs. Are there any specialised courses that are decent enough, and will provide a strong theoretical/practical background?
A: I agree with the previous poster. Most schools have their hand in social impact coursework and programs. A business school would be foolish not to for fear of missing out on students and opportunities. For example, HBS has a Social Impact conference each year. That attracts people the world over.
This is a great resource from our friends at Clear Admit:
https://www.clearadmit.com/best-busines ... al-impact/2. For the ones who have already joined B-schools and are working in this space, how did you find your schools for a career in impact investing? What's your advice for prospective applicants interested in impact investing?
A: We are not current students (but have many who are in social impact investing on our staff!) but we are confident that many did a combination of campus recruiting and networked search for both their internships and full-time roles.
3. For someone who has a bit of experience in the social sector, but none in impact/investment space - would making this leap be a hard sell - what are some of the things that one can do to make it a strong transition plan (leadership experiences, work ex, volunteering, pro-bono etc;)?
A: It's all about interest, interest, interest. Pivoting to social impact investing is not impossible. You just have to form the right connections and be persistent. Part of that process is showing to prospective employers that you are well aware of the dynamics of the space and, occasionally, pitch them investment ideas. They will take an interest in your if you engage them with valuable content on a regular basis.
