OFFICIAL EXPLANATION

Let's formulate our own answer to this question before getting bogged down in the answer choices. The first bolded section begins with "however," which clues us in that it is introducing evidence for a counterargument against the belief stated in the previous sentence. The next sentence explains more fully how this evidence offers an alternate explanation for what appears to be "genius."
Since the overall point of the passage is that skills are developed through practice rather than innate ability, the first statement supports the argument; it is not a "rebuttal" or contradiction in any way. That eliminates (A), (B), and (C). Choice (D) doesn't make sense, because the second part doesn't rebut, but builds on the first part.
Choice (E) works best the first part offers evidence that is interpreted to make the claim that "genius" is really the result of practice.

The correct answer is (E).
