Some people contend that the distinction between an extreme sport and a conventional one has as much to do with marketing as with the level of danger involved or how much adrenaline is generated.

(A) with the level of danger involved or how much adrenaline is generated

(B) with the level of danger that is involved or the adrenaline amount it generates

(C) with the level of danger involved or the amount of adrenaline generated

(D) to the danger level involved or the amount of adrenaline being generated

(E) to the level of danger involved or the amount of adrenaline it generates

This question is based on Parallelism of Comparison and Idiomatic Usage.

The clue to the appropriate option lies in the phrase placed immediately before the underlined portion - as much to do with marketing as. The conjunctions ‘as-as’ indicates a comparison. The sentence states that the distinction between…..one has as much to do with marketing. To complete the idea, we must identify what else the distinction has to do with. To make the comparison parallel, the preposition ‘with’ must be repeated.

On the basis of this rule, Options D and E can be eliminated.

In Option A, the phrase “level of danger involved” is parallel to “marketing”, but the clause “how much adrenaline is generated” is not parallel. So, Option A can be eliminated.

Option B is wordy. The phrase “adrenaline amount” is idiomatically inappropriate. So, Option B can also be eliminated.

In Option C, the noun phrases “level of danger” and “the amount of adrenaline generated” are parallel to the noun “marketing”. Therefore, C is the most appropriate option.
