Hi there,
First of all my background. Indian Engineer, 43, with MS(EE) from US and planning for Top 20 MBA Schools (who isn't). I am really weak in Verbal Section of GMAT. I scored 560(Q44 V22) on my first attempt, despite spending $1350 on a reputed GMAT prep company. Before taking the prep course, i scored 550 in diagnostics. So $1350 for 10 point increase. Got the pic?

I came across GMAXonline thru this forum. First i was skeptical, one more GMAT prep company uhh. But after reading the comments, i thought of giving it a try with $229. I must tell you that I am impressed with Quality and Quantity of Instructions provided in this course.

PROS
1-Online Streaming Video gives me a lot of flexibility, so I can take lessons anytime I like.
2-I can take any lesson upto 3 times, in case if i am not clear with the concept.
3-After the lesson, there are specific HW from OG which will further clarify the concept.
4-Every lesson explains every question types asked in the test. These people hve been in GMAT tutoring business from last 10 years which reflects in their course. The teachers know the stuff inside out.
5- Three full Test, which are adaptive and exactly like real GMAT, so you know your weakness immediatly after test. Good for the practice.

In short, i am very satisfied with the course. Since, my main weakness is Verbal, i completed half of verbal lessons in a week including all Homework, and scoring exremly good in practice test. I am confident that i will overcome this 'Verbal monster' this time. For Math, i took only probability class and found to be far better than others. I wil take all the math lessons as well once i am done with Verbal.

I will be more than happy to reply to any folk who wants more info.

DISCLAIMER : I AM NOT PAID BY THIS OR ANY OTHER COMPANY TO WRITE REVIEW. MY INTENTION IS TO TELL OTHER PEOPLE LIKE ME THAT THERE EXISTS A SOLUTION FOR EVERY PROBLEM. FOR GMAT, I THINK GMAXONLINE IS THE SOLUTION.

Hi there,

Can you tell me more about your background? Are you just beginning to study for the GMAT? What do you think of the support of GMAX?

I started GMAT preparation from Nov 04. Appeared in Feb 05 and scored 560. Did really badly in RC and SC. Got 4 RC right in the begining and screwed up timings. I thought i wont be able to appear for GMAT, but later realized that GMAT is NOT about intelligence. It depends on your preparation. There are many people who have raised their score.
So right now, i am buckling up for the second attempt.

For $229 you will have 55 hours of instruction. I never felt the need for the support. But if you need the support, you pay more money. Please visit their web site https://www.gmaxonline.com I had some issues in the begining with the site and Leanna - the director over there - promptly helped me, even though it was a weekend.

I hope i clarified your query. Let me know if you have some more questions.

Hi there,

Thanks for your response. My situation is that I took the GMAT in nov 04 for the first time and got a 640. I have been doing some studying on my own but never quite feel that I am getting that "700-range' feel. I have been doing OG for practice and only getting 85% of the questions right. Also, I haven't spend much time on the Math part as I spent so much of my time on CR, SC and RC.

Do you think it is worth the $299 for GMAXOnline? Beisdes some content and ways of thinking/tackling the questions, how does GMAXOnline help? Also, how can I get in touch with Lennan?

Appreciate your response agani.

This time i am using exclusively OG. I am following the course religously, like when i am done with Subject Verb Agreement, we are suppose to do OG Question # ......... for Subject Verb Agreemnt. Similarly when the teacher explained about inference questions, we are suppose to do HW from OG.

And Remember, there are Mid-term and Final Test which are adaptive and exactly like ETS. Though i have not yet taken these two test. I only took diagnostic so far and it showed me my weak point, which i am working on.

And Yes, i will be appearing for GMAT as soon as possible to apply for the last round.

Shoot me other questions if you have.

Good Luck

Hi People,

I am using GMAX. It is really helping me. The course structure is fabulous. I frequently take lessons with GMAX and I really love the way they teach.

GMAX prepares a strong foundation for GMAT test takers. The team at GMAX is really outstanding.

I recommend everyone who is taking GMAT to take this course and face the exam with confidence.

Thanks,
Mohit

Hi there,

I am already scoring in the mid-600 range from an actual GMAT test. Do you think GMAX is still worth taking?

Thanks

Let me say "BEYOND DOUBT, YOU SHOULD"

Hi Mak,

Just a follow up on our discussion on GMAX. I ended up not taking the GMAX course. I spent some times doing a lot of practices. On my second attempt, I got a 720.

How did you do with your second attempt? I can tell you what I have used. In fact, I will be selling some of my stuffs soon.

how long does the entire program take? Also, why do they use Barron's as one of their resources? I have heard mixed reviews regarding the Barron's book...

Dear Kinka,
GMAX Online has become even better than it was!
First, there should be no more problems accessing the lessons, as the server we are now using is stronger than ever before.
Next, as part of the price we give you access to three CAT exams (we started doing this a few months ago) and, for an additional fee, we will review the tests with you and point out areas where you must improve. We can both see the finished test at the same time.
Also, you can take the lessons from any (non-portable) computer and not just from the computer you registered from. This is an advantage if you have available time at work. Again, this benefit has been in operation for a while, and is very much appreciated.
Finally, you can now see exactly how many lessons you have taken and know how many of the 90 views you have left. There are 30 lessons in the course, and if you finish studying and do not need the rest of the lessons, you can sell them to someone who wants them. (Most people take each lesson once, and a few lessons twice.) In addition, you can split the price of the course with a friend, and use the 90 views together. Also, there is no time limit at all, so the lessons can continue for as long as you like. You can also access the lessons at any time of day or night, whenever is comfortable for you. And, as is true with all e-learning, there is no time lost in travelling to the course. All of your spare time can be used to study for this (difficult) test.
The price of $299 was an introductory price and it lasted for over a year, instead of only for 3 months as we originally intended. The final price of the course will be $699, but we will raise it in increments over the next year and a half.
There is no course like this anywhere else: you will feel exactly as if you are in a classroom with an excellent teacher who will repeat anything you need repeated, pause when necessary, and begin teaching again on demand. As long as you don't finish the lesson completely, you can rewind it without opening the link another time - i.e. all within the same lesson.
If you enjoy having a personal connection with a teacher, we have online sessions of 90 minutes twice a week in which you can ask questions and can try new material with 11 other students and a teacher using our video conferencing portal. Once a week the session is dedicated to sentence correction problems, and the second session is for mathematics. The price is very low, and will soon rise.
At a different price, we offer a weekly live math master class. Truly excellent!
Our students have been very happy with GMAX and with GMAX Online, as we are very generous with our lessons, and the lessons are wonderful.
One of the gmat club members posted a thank you to gmat club that tells of her grade after taking GMAX Online. You can follow the link here:

https://www.gmatclub.com/phpbb/viewtopic ... light=gmax

Study hard. Do all the homework. Enjoy the course.
I hope you succeed on the GMAT.
Regards,
Leanna

My husband and I are in the process of preparing for the GMAT. We both took the test back in 03' and scored under 500. We believe that our poor score was due to our lack of quality preparation. We are considering purchasing the GMAX course and would like to share the lessons. I read that there are 30 lessons involved and that you can view each lesson 3 times. What will happen when we go to take the tests offered? Do we need to take them together? Also, is there a possibility to purchase CD's instead? I am concerned that we do not have a reliable enough internet connection. Additionally, is there technical support or customer service offered if needed? I attempted to call the 1-877 number for the last 2 days with questions and kept receiving a busy signal -

What books and tests need to be purchased as well?

Any assistance to my inquiry is greatly appreciated -

This link is taken from the GMAXOnline thread in the GMAT board. Leanna says that the course is now available in CD formats.

I think you'll need the Barons GMAT book and the OG 10th edition. I'm not sure if it works with the 11th ed of the OG.

Hi,
About the Barron's - starting next week, the pages we use in the course will be available to our students as a download from the site!
We are almost finished translating the homework assignments to the OG11 and the 2 Official Review guides.
I still believe that if you can buy the 10th edition (either publishing date, they are the same books), you will save money over the combination of 3 books that GMAC is now selling. Most of the questions are the same anyway, and there seem to be more questions in OG10 than in the combo.
Check out the site - https://www.gmaxonline.com - you can now purchase only the Verbal sections, only the Math sections, or the full course.
The CDs are coming soon. They will also be available as Verbal Only, Math Only, or Full Course.
It would be a shame to take the test before you are truly ready, as the universities see all your scores. You always want to show yourself in your best light.
Leanna
