Finance plays an involved role in the health of the overall Economy, which impacts everyone, regardless of whether or not they have studied finance. The field of finance explains why the 2008 recession occurred; it is the reason why people care about the stock market is doing each day; and it articulates why businesses and governments make some of the decisions they do. Finance plays a significant part in many of the stories in the news every day, which means that those who understand finance has a better grasp on how the events of the world affect them. Finance professionals have the unique responsibility of managing assets and analyzing risks to ensure the future success of a company or organization. It is difficult to overstate the importance of this role, as the financial crisis of 2008 showed. It is due to my understanding of the importance of finance and investment, coupled with my longstanding interest for this subject that I have decided to pursue postgraduate studies in finance at your prestigious university.
I am in the field of Banking for the past 3 years. I have done Economic Honors in my Graduation and then went on to complete my Masters in Economics from Punjab University, Chandigarh. I feel that doing masters in Finance would ideally complement my post graduation in Economics. In Economics I have already studied Microeconomics, Macroeconomics, Industrial Economics, Economics of Growth of Development, Quantitative methods, History of Economic thought, Agricultural Economics and Econometrics. I was awarded 1st Prize in 2nd Chandigarh Social Science Congress for presenting paper on “Globalization”. I am an active volunteer With Indian Red Cross Society. I participated in various camps organized by the Punjab State Centre. I also participated in various tests organized by the Council for UN Information at School level.
During my Post Graduation in 2009, I worked part time for CM Group in Chandigarh as Manager in Finance. This was the time when I had the first experience of practical application of Finance. I broadened my understanding of economic principles while learning about management and its relationship to finance. This was particularly fascinating at the time because the global financial crisis of 2008 was wrecking havoc on economies and businesses around the world, and the theories that we learned were directly applicable to the current events in the news. In the course Financial Quantitative Methods, I learned to use mathematical and statistical methods to properly analyze financial aspects and various aspects like cost-cutting, investment etc.
During my post graduation, I secured an internship with Cueblock Technologies where I studied about Google Ad words and Analytics; MSN Ad centre. I cracked the recruitment exam of Allahabad Bank and was recruited as a Probationary Officer, Scale-1. Allahabad Bank (Public Sector Undertaking) is the oldest Joint Stock Bank in India and was established way back in 1865. I completed my on-job-training on 1st December, 2013. I was posted in Banga Branch which had a portfolio of INR 340 million; then I was transferred to Amritsar Branch which had the portfolio of INR 510 million. I was made the branch head of Mahilpur branch which was opened by me in December 2013 where I successfully achieved targets for the financial year. I was then transferred to Panchkula branch as Assistant Manager, which is my current posting. Due to my sheer learning aptitude and interest in finance I was nominated for CDSL’s (Central Depository Services (INDIA) Ltd.) DP Training Programme. I was also appointed as dedicated officer for Credit (asset) by Head Office for my work and interest in Advances.
I have chosen masters in finance and organizational management in France because it has one of the most prestigious education systems in the world. France is the 2nd European Economic power, is home to numerous MNC like Airbus, L’Oreal, KPMG and PWC. The course provided by Kedge Business School which is a triple accredited (EQUIS, AACSB, AMBA) is the one which will provide me a broad and deeper understanding of the financial world especially various financial analysis tools, applying hedging etc. The experience that I have will help me understand more precisely the financial, strategic and organizational management. The international outlook of the business school which has 25% international students and has 30000 alumni would provide me ample opportunities to be enable to build a global vision of the discipline.
After earning my degree I wish to work as a consultant in corporate finance like KPMG or PWC. Equipped with the technical expertise and professional skills learned in your university, I will be prepared for the challenges that I will encounter. In my career, I hope to not only work to avoid future financial collapses, but also to help institutions use their resources to the greatest advantage. I am confident that I am well-prepared to meet the demands of your program, and I greatly appreciate your consideration.
