Dear admins, moderators and members,
I have booked my GMAT two weeks from today but still facing some fundamental problem with my preparation. Before sharing my issue here is a small background:
I appeared for GMAT after two months of preparation and scored 640 (V29, Q48, AWA 5.5, IR4) in Dec 2013.
Material used: e-GMAT for verbal, Manhattan for Quant, Kaplan books and made my own notes.
Total questions practised: ~3000 from various sources including OG,
GMATClub tests (only for Quant), GMATPrep QP1, Manhattan full length exams, GMATPrep Exam 1 & 2 etc.
The sole reason for my failure in Dec 2013 test was Panic. I was scared of the exam, could not sleep the previous night. Woke up with a fatigue in morning. Still kept myself positive for the exam. I started the exam with AWA (prepared only from Chineeseburnd advise on gmatclub), IR went well (i took is as a puzzle in newspaper). Quant start was not good, i became scared toward the end of the Quant section. Verbal started well but soon fatigue took over me and i felt dizzy by 15th question. I tried to keep cool but gave up by 25th question. After this, i could not read at all, forget comprehending text. This resulted in a less score.
Soon after exam, i switched jobs and gave my 100% to new job and kept GMAT aside. Not to loose the touch i joined a local institute in bangalore. The concepts were good and i thought i got grip of the Verbal section to some extent.
I started my preparation (mostly on and off) again from Mar 2014 but it was in early Jun that i became serious about the exam. Now after some revision of SC, CR and RC concepts and some practice, I gave GMATPrep tests and following is the summary:
GMATPrep Exam 1 : 650 (Q45, V34)
GMATPrep Exam 2 : 660 (Q47, V34)
GMATPrep Exam 3 : 680 (Q48, V35, IR5) - Gave in real exam conditions at the institute.
As you can see, although i can handle Quant section (I have not revised Quant theory and practiced fewer questions), I am unable to determine what's wrong with my Verbal. On an average, number of incorrect questions is the same for SC, CR and RC. The mistakes are a mix of concepts, overlooking, and missing the main point (Also, the question i marked second best was correct).
With two weeks away from the exam, i need your help on what should i focus on (I am taking last week off for Manhattan exams). Should i revise concepts? Should i practice more questions? Or there is something else which i am missing out from my preparation? Please help me out. My aim is to break the 700 barrier (Which i can't do without breaking V40 barrier).
Regards,
Saurabh
